This
meeting was very timely given what is happening in our current state of the
economy.
The speakers represent the front line of who is working to attract business
to Michigan. They spoke of how the State of Michigan, the southeastern
region of the state and several counties are working together. This
partnership works together to attract global markets as well as domestic
firms to do business in our state. Michigan is rich in knowledge, resources
and skilled talent. The first initiative was to obtain a much needed $20
million budget to spread the word to companies and businesses around the
world? The Pure Michigan Campaign devotes 80% of that budget to advertising
outside the State of Michigan. There are also incentives that are being
offered on the state and community level to attract and retain business.
The speakers, exchanged dialogue with the members of the DRRC about the
importance that our relocation professionals have in the process, as
resources to help companies worldwide establish a presence in our region.
They also expressed how important it is for all of our citizens of Michigan
to spread the positive message about our region.
There is an e-newsletter called Detroit Region in Motion. The Detroit
Chamber of Commerce is responsible for putting it together and disseminating
it to thousands of their contacts worldwide. They also run a research
program that arms their partners and clients with information to support
their respective projects.
We truly appreciated the opportunity to pull this presentation together to
inform the DRRC membership of our area partnership and hopefully this helped
to communicate what is being done to grow Michigan's economy. Relocation
professionals are obviously an important part of that overall effort.
